The Rheingau Festival Mahler Cycle by Paavo Järvi and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, released on the "C-major" label, is now complete. Rheingau Music Festival. The Eberbach Abbey, used for the recording, is visually beautiful and known for its excellent acoustics. Rather than creating a new program every year, Paavo Järvi conceived of the Mahler Cycle at this festival as a long-term plan. This is actually a seven-year project and can be said to be Paavo's life's work.The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, together with Pavo, has been acquiring the elements essential for performing Mahler's symphonies, such as brilliant brass, full strings, and solistic woodwinds, at a high quality year after year. Pavo performed Mala 9 with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra during their visit to Japan in 2008. On that occasion, the orchestra gave a profound performance that fully harnessed the orchestra's power. Pavo describes the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra as a very suitable orchestra for performing Mahler's music, and as an orchestra that traditionally has a good understanding of Mahler's musical language and can clearly grasp what Mahler is trying to achieve.
