The second edition of the highly acclaimed Colin Currie! This is the second release with world-renowned trumpeter Hardenberger, "the best trumpet player on earth"! Percussionist Colin Currie is recognized by Reich. This time, Cary performs with the world's number one trumpeter, Håkan Hardenberger, who has been recognized as one of the best trumpeters in the world. They have been performing together for more than 15 years ("A Soldier's Tale" was their first collaboration) and have always broken new ground. They are an outstanding duo with a rare combination of charisma and virtuosity. Their performance on the Colin Currie Records is a superbly crafted, eccentric, and rewarding program. Jolivet's "Eptado," a fusion of energy and lyricism, is the earliest work on this disc (1971), but it is, according to Currie, "a classic" that is "at once jarring and sophisticated.The intimidating trumpet part and Cary's skillful percussion part are the highlights of the performance. Joe Duddell is a British composer who has written works for a wide range of orchestras and has also written music (arrangements) for the Burberry fashion show. Swedish composer Broström's works were written for both of them. Broström himself was a percussionist, and this is an interesting work that makes effective use of a variety of instruments. Dael Bälz is known for his operas such as "The Priestess of Bakkos" (1991), "Marie Antoinette" (1998), and "Goya" (2009), as well as oratorios and other vocal works, but he has also composed in a wide range of genres, including symphonies, orchestral works, chamber music, and works for instrumental music. He has also collaborated with Bergman on music theater.Australian composer Brett Dean's "Scene of the Crime" was commissioned by the 2017 Malmö Chamber Music Festival, written for Hardelberger and Currie and premiered by the pair. The work comes after Dean's opera of Hamlet (2013-16), and he says that the close proximity of Malmö to Helsingør, the setting of Hamlet, made it just the right piece to bring his own Hamlet period to a close before embarking on other projects. The title "Scene of the Crime" refers to the development of the mysterious and "black" section of the piece, which is somewhat reminiscent of the story of Hamlet. The piece is a "devilish" piece with trumpet, flugelhorn, and drums, which Cary says makes for a great listening experience.The producer is Marion Schwebel, who has also made numerous recordings for the BIS label.
