Paolo Querici, who studied lute with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basel, the headquarters of Swiss ancient music, is one of the leading luthists in Italy. Following his previous solo recording of lute works by Vincenzo Capirola (TC 470301), this second solo recording from Tactus is a collection of lute pieces based on a tablature edited by Antonio Castelliono, a printer active in Milan in the early 16th century, and published in Milan in 1536. This is a collection of lute pieces in tablature notation. The works of Francesco da Milano, Marco Dall'Aquila, Pietro Paulo Bologno, and other outstanding luthiers and composers of the time resonate in our time on the lute and bihuela of Querici.
