Flamma Flamma - Requiem for Fire" (1994), an unconventional work from the early years of Belgian composer Nicolas Rens, known for his contemporary operas, has been re-edited and remastered to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release! Supervised by the composer himself, it is being released not only on CD but also on LP for the first time.
Flamma Flamma" is strongly influenced by the magical powers of non-European cultures. Nicholas Lens has incorporated the naturalistic view of life and death of non-European cultures, noting that primitive death rituals contrast with the organized rituals of Western culture. Using folk voices and non-Western instruments such as the Japanese koto, he blends these cultural elements with Western classical music. At first listen, the sound cannot help but remind one of Orff's "Carmina Burana," but the impact of the worldview is even greater, a mixture of mythology, philosophy, and fantasy. It is sure to be a powerful musical experience.
This is a work that explores the harmony of contrasting elements.It is a contrast between highly trained classical opera singers and immature, natural voices, a natural attempt to bridge diametrically opposed styles and eras.
