Description:

This album traces the journey in search of "timeless values" through the works of Estonian composers! Music is always incomparable, touching us like light and enriching us with its full spectrum. Estonian cellist Allal Kasik traces his journey in search of "timeless values" through the works of Estonian composers in the album "Timeless Light". Two pieces by Galina Grigorjeva, a Ukrainian composer, are featured on the album. Prayer" is an adaptation of a piece for saxophone and organ that uses the musical image of a person kneeling before an altar and praying. Recitativo Accompagnato" (Recitativo with Orchestration), a music for "personal confession by unaccompanied cello" that makes full use of the color and expression of the cello instrument. Kurdal Sink's "Lord, have mercy on us" is "the musical testament of a man in search of truth" by a composer who loved the quiet life in the countryside and walks in the hills. Tonu Kollwitz's "Seven Dreams of Seven Birds," a "fairy tale with music set in a faraway land," is a work for cello and chorus in "four movements played without interruption" of four selections from "The Seven Dreams of Seven Birds.Arvo Pärt dedicated "Pro e contra" to Rostropovich, and Kasik, who was given a copy of the manuscript score by the composer, performed the Estonian premiere of the work with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Peter Lillier (1950-1993) during the "Singing Revolution" (1987-1991). The work was premiered in Estonia on the occasion of the Erkki-Sven Toer's "Spectrum IV" is a work in which the cello plays in front of the altar rather than in the loft where the organ is installed, making the "church space" separating the cello and organ "the third player in the ensemble. For me, the music that resonates in the church is part of the Mass" (Kasik). New recordings for Sink, Korvits, and Tur; others are remastered from old and new recordings by ERR (Estonian Public Radio) and Forte Records, produced as a dedication album to the 100th anniversary of Estonian independence in 2018. Allal Kasik was born in 1949. He studied cello in Moscow, Riga, Latvia, and Tallinn, Estonia, and is principal cellist of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Estonian National Opera Orchestra. He plays with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Balocco Levariensis and is a founding member of the Hortus Musikus. As an educator, he has taught at the East Helsinki Music School and the Sibelius Academy and conducted master classes in Europe and the United States. He is also very involved with composers and has collaborated with the composers on this disc as well as those represented by Penderecki, Rautavaara, Stockhausen, Helmut Rosenwald, Esther Magi, Urmas Sisasku, and Peteris Vasks.
