Makanowitzky & Lee Duo The Complete Sonatas of Beethoven and J.S. Bach Paul Makanowitzky was born in Stockholm to Russian parents on June 20, 1920, and died in Freeport, Maine, on February 24, 1998, a Russian-American violinist. DOREMI, which has been tickling the hearts of enthusiasts with its heart-wrenching releases, is pleased to present the complete sonatas of Beethoven and J.S. Bach, two of his best-known recordings, on CD for the first time as a set. Makanowitzky, who later taught at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and Toho Gakuen School of Music, received his first violin lessons at the age of just four as a student of the famous teacher Ivan Galamian (1903-1981), who taught at the Russian Academy of Music in Paris from 1924 to 1937. In 1937, he made his New York debut.In 1944, during World War II, he was shot down in Romania and was a prisoner of war for six months, but became a U.S. citizen and resumed his career as a soloist after the war, performing on major American orchestras with Montoux, Paley, Goldschman, Koussevitzky, and others. The complete Beethoven cycle with Noel Lee (b. 1924), with whom Makanowitzky first formed a duo in 1954 and with whom he performed for the next 10 years, is reissued on the French LUMEN disc.
