Chandler & La Serenissima's long-awaited second Brescianello series! La Serenissima is a period ensemble founded in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, one of Britain's foremost baroque violinists. La Serenissima is a period ensemble founded in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, one of the UK's leading baroque violinists, and has won two Gramophone Awards for its world premiere recordings of unknown and rediscovered works by composers from 18th century Venice and its surroundings, including Vivaldi, the "Red-Haired Priest." ("Serenissima" means "a sunny place," which is another name for Venice, Serenissima" is another name for Venice). Italian composer and violinist Giuseppe Antonio Breschanello (c.1690-1758), a Kapellmeister at the Württemberg court in Stuttgart, was a contemporary of Vivaldi, but his music remains relatively unknown. While some composers are shrouded in history for good reason, Breschanello's music had many compelling arguments to be restored.La Serenissima first featured Breschanello during the 2014 season, and has since performed the opera "Thisbe" and recorded a violin concerto ("Extra Time" [SIGCD641]) and a trio sonata ("Settecento" [SIGCD663]). This album contains the second half of the Concerto and Sinfonia, Op.1, which was also featured on the previous album, "Behind Closed Doors" [SIGCD693]. In addition, the closing Overture-Suite in A major concludes with the rousing "Giga," a program that expresses the uplifting feeling of being freed ("Unlocked") from the closure ("Behind Closed Doors") caused by the Corona disaster.
