The Gabrieli Consort & Players, founded in 1982 by master musician Paul MacLeish, is one of the UK's leading ensembles and choirs in the field of ancient music. The first release is a recording of Henry Purcell's 1691 first movement. The first project is Purcell's patriotic semi-opera "King Arthur," first performed in 1691. MacLeish and the Gabrieli Consort have been featuring this "King Arthur" for a quarter of a century, and this recording is their latest interpretation, which has evolved with each performance. The recording also features a splendid cast of singers including Carolyn Sampson, Roderick Williams, Jeremy Budd, and Mairi Lawson, as well as the virtuosity of such renowned old-time instrumentalists as Jean-François Madoff on trumpet and Christopher Palameta on oboe.
