His cumulative album sales have exceeded 100 million copies worldwide; he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, won an Academy Award in 1985, and has received a total of seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award in 2006, and countless other music awards. Ranked 27th on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time,” he is truly a one-of-a-kind presence—the greatest icon and treasure in music history. Prince will be remembered forever as an overwhelming live performer, a chart-topping recording artist, and a revolutionary figure in the music industry. Throughout his 40 years in the spotlight, alongside his remarkable career, he tirelessly devoted himself to mentoring numerous young artists he admired. Now, a magnificent treasure of extraordinary brilliance is set to be released from Prince’s vast treasure trove of recordings. Although he provided many songs to other artists—all of which he had actually recorded himself and delivered to them in near-final form—*ORIGINALS*, a gem of a collection of previously unreleased tracks compiling Prince’s original versions, is set for a simultaneous worldwide release. Of the 15 tracks included on *ORIGINALS*, 14 are previously unreleased tracks making their debut. The album will be released on CD and via digital distribution (download and streaming), and approximately one month later, a 2-LP 180g vinyl set and a deluxe edition combining the CD and vinyl will also be released. While releasing his own hit albums, Prince was also writing songs for members of the Prince Family, including The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E., Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, The Family, and Mazarati. The original demo recordings produced by Prince underwent only minor adjustments—such as small tweaks to the instrumental parts or the replacement of vocals—and were ultimately used as the master takes for their albums. In other cases as well, the artists reportedly used the demos Prince initially recorded as a guide as they proceeded to the final recording sessions. The tracks included on *ORIGINALS*—a compilation of Prince’s original demo recordings (though the quality of these recordings far surpasses that of typical demos)—are all defining moments in each artist’s musical career. Sheila E.’s “The Glamorous Life” reached No. 1 on the dance charts (and No. 7 on the pop charts) in 1984; The Bangles’ “Manic Monday” peaked at No. 2 on the pop charts; and The Time’s “Jungle Love” reached No. 20. In addition to these familiar tracks, *ORIGINALS* includes lesser-known gems such as Vanity 6’s “Make-Up,” Jill Jores’ “Baby, You’re a Trip,” and Kenny Rogers’ “You’re My Love.” In addition to these previously unreleased tracks, the album also includes the original 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was released as a single in 2018 and generated significant buzz.
