Genesis is one of the top five progressive rock bands of all time.The band was highly acclaimed by prog rock fans as part of the golden age of British progressive rock, and then later developed a pop style of music and captured the hearts of a wide range of music fans with their songs reaching the top of the charts. They are a rare example of a band that has followed a very unique path. The early Genesis, with Peter Gabriel, the first and most charismatic vocalist of the band, the mid Genesis, with Phil Collins taking over the vocal duties after Peter Gabriel left the band, and the late 70's, when the band became a three-piece, bringing in more pop elements and creating a world rock/pop sound that was a hit on the charts. They have always been at the forefront of the rock scene, changing their lineup and changing their music, and have released 15 studio albums, 6 live albums, and many compilation albums throughout their career.
