Another exciting new band from Ireland has arrived on the scene. After garnering the attention of early-earning indie rock listeners with their self-produced "WAVES" EP in 2021 and "BANSHEE" EP the following year, the four-piece indie rock band from Galway is finally releasing their full-length album. Formed by frontman vocalist/guitarist Julie Dawson, along with school friends Aindle O'Beim on bass and Fiacra Parslow on drums, guitarist Sean O'Dowd joined in early 2020, and in 2022 Cara Joshi will replace Aindlen NewDad is the current lineup, with guitarist Sean O'Dowd joining in early 2020 and Cara Joshi replacing Aindlen in 2022.The band's main attraction is their dark, melodic guitar sound, influenced by Pixies, The Cure, Slowdive and 90's shoegaze bands, and frontman Julie's lyrical world that depicts their sensitive feelings. Through the 11 songs on their major label debut full-length album, "Madra" (Gaelic for "dog"), Julie traces a musical adventure of self-exploration, self-mutilation, and self-reflection that includes songs about bullying ("Where I Go"), drug influence/depression ("Madra," "Let Go"), and destruction ("Change My Mind"), The album features songs that tackle themes of bullying ("Where I Go"), drug influence/depression ("Madra," "Let Go"), destruction ("Change My Mind," "White Ribbons"), co-dependence ("Nosebleed"), and resistance ("Nightmares"). Produced by the band's longtime collaborator Chris Ryan, the album was recorded at Rockfield Studios, a historic studio in England that has been the subject of a documentary film, with additional recording sessions at RAK Studios in London. Additional recording sessions were conducted at RAK Studios in London.The album was also mixed by Alan Moulder, who has created many masterpieces of the grunge sound since the 1990s. The first single from the album, "Angel," features lyrics inspired by Julie's character in the TV drama "Euphoria," a grunge-inspired sound, swirling guitars, and a compelling bass line. Julie's heavy, dark, and introspective songwriting, her whispering vocals, and the nostalgic yet fresh shoegaze sound of the album "MADRA" are sure to make NewDad one of the hottest new bands on the UK/Irish indie rock scene this year. The album is sure to bring people together and make the band a force to be reckoned with. The album is a dark, yet sparkling guitar sound with melodies that seem to shine through the darkness.
