Description:

A musician's musician" - it must be a great pleasure for any musician to be called a "musician's musician. And that is because he or she has reached the level of "virtuoso" or "maestro," in other words, a "maestro" as a musician. Alan Holdsworth is one of the few musicians and guitarists who have reached the level of such a "maestro. After hearing Holdsworth's masterpiece "I.O.U." and hearing of his plight, Eddie Van Halen wondered what he could do to support the artist he respected so much. After consulting with Mo Austin, then Senior Vice President of Van Halen at Warner Brothers, Holdsworth was signed to his first major label, and with the support of successful producer Ted Templeman and Eddie Van Halen (only one track was produced by Holdsworth himself), "Road Games" was released. The Road Games" was produced with the support of successful producers Ted Templeman and Eddie Van Halen (only one track was produced by Holdsworth himself). Originally planned to be released as a full-length album, it somehow ended up as a six-song mini-album at the time of release. The main recording members are Jeff Berlin, a close friend from the Bluford era and a support member at Holdsworth shows during this period, Chad Wackerman, drummer for the Frank Zappa Band, and Paul Williams, who continues to contribute vocals and lyrics as he did on the previous album. Jack Bruce of Cream, who had known the band during the New Lifetime era, sang on one song on the album. The recording quality is incomparably higher than that of "I.O.U." because of the budget spent on this major-label album. Prior to the release of the new album, the three recording members went on a West Coast-only tour. During this tour, the September 18 concert in Berkeley, California was recorded and broadcast by a local FM station. This live album was recorded and broadcasted by a local FM station. The live performance featuring the strong and technical rhythm section of Jeff Berlin & Chad Wackerman and their old friend from the Tempest era, Paul Williams, is one of the best live performances of Alan Holdsworth's many live albums!
