Amplifying and updating the Grind Osaka concept of yesteryear, 'best kept secret' is now fully revealed in its first full-length album.
SLUG, the newest pioneer of extreme/aggressive music from Osaka whose name has been flying around for the past few years, finally reveals its full face with the release of its first full-length album.
Formed in 2019, SLUG consists of 6 members (Vo / G x2 / Noise / B / Ds) and has been expanding the sense of secrecy and tension with minimal information and no group shots other than the live performance and the sound you can experience there, SLUG_TAPE_2" will be released in 2023. Both of these releases are in cassette format with elaborate bindings, presenting a unique worldview from aspects other than sound sources. When they performed with EARTH/MERZBOW/ENDON at the "leave them allbehind 2024" roaring beauty heavy sound festival, they gave a shocking performance in total darkness, raising expectations for a more open scene.
The jet-black sound based on sludge/grind/crust mannerisms has an extreme feel, but the band's compositional skills and solid playing are meticulously crafted with riffs and a variety of rhythm patterns. The Vo of curses and sorrow that stabs through the wall of sound painted on every part without showing a single crevice is breathtaking. The introduction of sampling and electronically generated noise is reminiscent of ENDON and after, but it is distinct from mere followers.
