Formed in 1991 near Maryland, the band is known for its intricate and technical guitar riffs, groovy handling of super-fast blast, mid/slow parts, and beatdowns, and twin death vocals, with a more hardcore approach. The band has released eight studio albums to date with countless member changes, and is one of the most popular and best-selling death metal bands in the world today. This is their ninth album, their first in six years. The album was produced by Steve Wright, who has produced several albums in the past few years, and Mark Lewis (CANNIBAL CORPSE, etc.) was employed as mixing engineer. The band has been refining the sound style they have developed so far, believing in their own technicality, without being eccentric or unnecessarily competing with the competition. The band's leader, John Gallagher (G/Vo), leads an ironclad ensemble and provides the band with a commanding presence.
