The popular live recording series at Roppongi Alfie features the hometown trio of bassist Takumi Awatani, who hails from Hokkaido, one of the hottest spots in contemporary jazz! Hokkaido has recently been attracting attention as a birthplace of many hot young jazz musicians, and Takumi Awatani was one of the pioneers in the 2000's. Born in Kitami City, Hokkaido in 1985, Awatani moved to Sapporo after graduating from high school. After graduating from high school, he moved to Sapporo to become a member of the Ryo Fukui Trio and studied at the famous "Slow Boat" restaurant. Since then, he has been used as a bassist for national tours when overseas pianists such as Barry Harris and Benny Green visit Japan, and has been a regular member of Sadao Watanabe's band since 2014, earning him the trust of legends. Now that this young standard-bearer has become a top bassist, he has gathered with even younger colleagues from his hometown to record with a regular trio. The venue was Alfie's, a long-established jazz club in Roppongi with an established reputation for its acoustic sound. Again, the recording was handled by the team at Acoustic House, the most prestigious studio in Japan. The sound of the originals, which are related to the northern lands of Japan, seem to evoke the scenery of those places. The photography and design was done by world-renowned photographer Mikio Hasui.
