Description:

[Beethoven Masterpieces SA-CD - SHM Edition] On the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, the complete string quartets by DG's leading quartet are released on SA-CD for the first time! The Amadeus String Quartet, which made its debut in London in 1948, remained unchanged with Breinin and Nissel on violins, Sidorov on viola, and Lovett on cello until its dissolution in 1987. The quartet, which disbanded after Sidorov's death, made several recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, including the complete Beethoven string quartets (16 pieces) recorded in the 1960s, which are still highly regarded as their best-known repertoire. This time, the complete works, previously available on 7 CDs, are now released on two separate 3-CD SA-CD sets. The margins of the second volume include three of Beethoven's piano quartets, which were previously released only on LP. All are being released on SA-CD for the first time. DSD masters produced by Emil Berliner Stuios in Germany in January 2020 from the original Deutsche Grammophon masters. Japan original project. [Amadeus String Quartet, Norbert Breinin (1st violin), Siegmund Nissel (2nd violin) (string quartet only), Peter Sidorov (viola), Martin Lovett (cello), Christoph Eschenbach (piano) (piano quartet only) Recordings: 1960-1963 (string quartet), 1969 (piano quartet)
