New album by Albrecht Mayer, principal oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic. The orchestra will perform with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, of which Meyer was principal oboe from 1990 to 1992. The conductor is Jakub Frusha, who is well known in Japan as the principal conductor of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and was the principal guest conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra for many years. The repertoire is a collection of works affected by the war. R. Strauss's masterpiece, written by a composer in his 80s just after the end of World War II, and lesser-known masterpieces by Elgar and Goossens. Also included is Ravel's "Couperin's Tomb," newly arranged for oboe and orchestra. (C)RS
