Description:
The Vienna Reed Quintet's unique combination of instruments, including saxophone, creates a fresh and invigorating sound that is significantly different from the traditional wind quintet. This album focuses on the works of two great French composers, Rameau and Ravel. The original of Rameau's suite "The Victorious Woman" is a keyboard piece, but Heckema's arrangement carefully captures the lightness and lively counterpoint of the work and transforms it into a new work for wind instruments. Almost 200 years later, Ravel's "Couperin's Tomb" is a work that weaves modern French sounds into a classical style. The original is a piano piece, and there is also an orchestral arrangement, but what you hear here is a light and stylish sound. Mozart's Fantasie (Fantasie fantastique) is also worth listening to for its neat and solemn sound. Naxos Japan
