Description:
Composer Petros Petridis was born near Cappadocia, Turkey. He graduated from high school in Istanbul and studied law in Paris from 1911, but served in the Balkan War the following year. After returning to Greece, he became a musician and almost entirely self-taught in compositional techniques, becoming a naturalized Greek citizen in 1913, after which he worked as a music critic while traveling back and forth between Paris and Athens. He is known for his use of medieval Byzantine chant and his use of complex polyphony in his works. The "Requiem for Constantine Paleologos" was written for the medieval emperor Constantine XI (1405-1453), and begins with a mournful theme mourning the end of the Byzantine Empire, and eventually leads to an uplifting finale. On the other hand, "Symphony No. 3" is a music with a French esprit with a minuet in the third movement. The beautiful cello melody in the second movement will remain in your ears. The Concerto Concerto is music in the style of the Baroque period, but with a modern language. Naxos Japan
