Description:
Brahms wrote his Second Symphony in 1877. The Violin Concerto was composed the following year, following in the vein of the Second Symphony, which had a rural character in contrast to the dramatic and tension-filled First Symphony. It is said that Sarasate was directly inspired by Bruch's concerto, but in fact, the violin concerto by Beethoven, which is in the same key as the first symphony, is also a strong influence. The result is a wonderful intertwining of the heavy orchestral part and the beautifully passionate melody of the violin part, and it has been called one of the "Three Great Violin Concertos" along with Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The Double Concerto was written in 1887. It is also Brahms' last orchestral work, and is a masterpiece of dialogue between the individual solo instruments and the orchestra, reminiscent of the "concerto concertos" of the Baroque period. The soloist in the violin concerto is Tianwa Yang, a well-known female violinist who has played on many NAXOS albums. She is not afraid to play this famous piece, which has been performed by many great musicians. She sings her own music with great eloquence. Schwabe, who also plays the cello solo in the Double Concerto, sings Brahms's melancholy melodies with a resonant tone, and he and Tianwa Yang are excellent collaborators. The orchestral part, which is as important as the symphony, is led by the famous conductor Antoni Vito. He confronts Brahms' music with as much passion as the young soloist. The recording made at "The Church of Jesus Christ" in Berlin-Dahlem is also noteworthy. Naxos Japan
