Description:
François Dovienne (1759-1803) was a composer active in France at the end of the 18th century. Most of his works are for wind instruments, among which there are about 13 flute concertos. Originally a bassoonist, he says he started playing the flute after joining the Paris Opera Orchestra as a bassoonist at the age of 20, and three years later, he made his debut at the Paris Consère Spirituelle with a flute concerto of his own composition! There are no symphonies among his works, but there are 12 operas, which he says were quite popular at the time. He was also an excellent teacher, and was appointed school administrator and flute professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, founded in 1795 (a reorganization of the original music school). Most of his flute concertos are in three movements (with a few exceptions) and have a well-defined rapid-flexible form.This first collection includes Nos. 1 through 4, and the virtuoso Patrick Gallois's steady performance allows you to fully enjoy these brilliant works.
