Joachim Ruff completed his last opera, "The Jealous People," a few weeks before his death. Written with no hope of ever being performed on stage, it is a comic drama of more than two hours with a nonsensical plot that shows the influence of Italian bel canto and Mozart's operas. The cast consists of seven characters: two aristocratic couples, a servant couple, and the patriarchal Don Geronimo, with the two servants playing key roles in the progress of the story. The recording features superb singing by singers Matthias Bein and Mirjam Fessler, both of whom specialize in German opera. World premiere recording. Naxos Japan
