Description:

This is a collection of string quartets by American composer Daniel Poole. The three pieces on this album were composed in the Mediterranean over an 11-year period from 2004 to 2014. The theme of Nos. 5 and 6 is "Abandonment." No. 5, titled after a poem by Dante, describes how "whenever he feels lost in life, he travels to Italy to reset his mind. No. 6 is written in the style of Haydn's "Farewell," with the players leaving the stage one by one, and the melody of Beethoven's "Farewell" is also faintly quoted. No. 7 is meant to complement the previous work, No. 3, in which the solo soprano sings the words of the Psalm in the fourth movement. These three works are filled with romantic and rich emotions, typical of Danielpour, who is known for his lyrical style. Naxos Japan
