Description:
St. Florian's Abbey, where Bruckner (1824-1896) served as organist, is an important place, a "holy place," so to speak, where his remains are buried under the pipe organ. In the past, renowned Bruckner conductors such as Celibidacke and Asahina have visited this place to be inspired, and have left behind wonderful performances. The Mesto & Cleveland Orchestra recorded at this "sacred place" instead of Severance Hall, and the rich reverberation and other features make the performance sound even richer. The special feature of this performance is the use of the rare "Courcette Edition. The edition revised by the American scholar Courbet is basically the same as the "Leve Revised Version...Third Draft" of 1889 (with many changes, of course). This version was often used by conductors active in the 20th century, but at that time, it was often regarded unfavorably as a "falsified" version. The major difference between this version and the "Haas version based on the 1878/80 manuscript" or "Novak version No. 2," which is usually performed, is that the first theme in the last movement's repeat section was cut, and the repetition of the scherzo in the third movement was also eliminated. In addition, as mentioned above, there are many changes in notes, intensity, playing style, instruments used, detailed tempo, phrasing, expressive instructions, etc. Therefore, for those who are used to listening to the regular version, there may be many parts that are a little unfamiliar, but it is also an enjoyable experience. However, it is also an enjoyable experience. In other parts, cymbals and other instruments are used, and in general, the brass is lessened to make it easier to hear the strings. In addition to such interest in the music and the performance, the video inside the abbey by video director Brian Large is also noteworthy.Beautiful ceiling murals, majestic temple buildings and pillars.... It is a beautiful scene that gives us a vivid impression of the era in which Bruckner lived. Naxos Japan
