Description:
Knappertsbusch's masterpiece, the complete first act of "Die Walküre," reissued in phenomenally improved sound quality! We were proud to have achieved the best possible sound quality. However, we decided that the entire mastering process for this masterpiece should be done with professional equipment, and the results were astounding. The tapes were the same as those used for the GS-2163, but the sound was about 30% more expansive in terms of front-to-back, left-to-right, up-and-down space. At the same time, the freshness and luster of the Vienna Philharmonic was divine, and the singers' voices were so wonderful that I shivered. The singers' voices were so wonderful that I was almost afraid to let a disc with such sound quality circulate in the world. The commentary includes a note from Otto Strasser (who was the principal second violinist of the Vienna Philharmonic), who also used this disc on GS-2163. This sentence is one of the most important in the literature written about Knappertsbusch, and we judged it appropriate for this masterful performance.Please note that there is no bilingual lyrics attached to this CD.
