A gem of a bass clarinet album, radiant, mellow, delicate, warm, beautiful, robust and thoroughly persuasive. Sachiko Inoue's expressive range and artistry shine in these nine works by composers of her own generation, whose dramatic writing reveals new possibilities in the bass clarinet. Bass clarinet: Sachiko Inoue Born in Obihiro, Hokkaido. She graduated from the music course of the Arts and Culture Programme, Faculty of Education, Sapporo Campus, Hokkaido University of Education, and completed her studies with highest honours at the Sibelius Academy (clarinet) and at the Rotterdam Conservatory (bass clarinet). 1997: second prize at the 9th HIMES Competition. 1999: appeared in the Sapporo New Artists Concert. 2000: performed with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra at the 100th New Artists Concert of the Japan Federation of Professional Musicians. Second prize at the 2nd Lahti Woodwind Competition in Finland. 2001-07: took part in the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland. 2002-04: selected in the Kuhmo Festival's young artists auditions. 2005: fellow of the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs' Programme of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists (fiscal year 2006). 2005: third prize at the 1st Henri Selmer International Bass Clarinet Competition. 2007: first prize at the 1st Rotterdam International Art Music Competition. 2003-05: clarinettist with the orchestra of the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki. 2005-08: bass clarinettist with the Netherlands Promenade Orchestra. She studied clarinet with Daizaburo Watanabe, Tadayoshi Takeda, Hiroshi Yamamoto, A. Heiskanen, K. Kriikku and N. Braithwaite, and bass clarinet with H. Nikula and H. Bok. In masterclasses and elsewhere she has also worked with H. Mäki, M. Fröst, C. Neidich, R. Guiot, T. Martin, J. Köhler, Fumiko Oshima, R. van Spendonck, J. Farrell, A. Pay, M. Lethiec, J. Campbell, J.L. Estellés, K. Leister and W. Fuchs. Director of Kuhmo'z, Spin-off Rabbits, Clarinet Ensemble "Felicita" and Clarinet Ensemble Music Garden. Member of Clarinet Ensemble Ebony and Claddict Ensemble. Member of the Japan Clarinet Association, the Japan Music Education Society, the Japan Society for Music Improvisation, the Japanese Association of Music Expression and the Japan Band Directors Association; secretariat of the Japan Bass Clarinet Competition; instructor to the Shizuoka City Fire Department Music Band; special lecturer at Tokoha University Tachibana Junior and Senior High School; and Associate Professor in the Music Department of Tokoha University Junior College.
