Description:
Hans August Alexander Bronsart von Schellendorf, known as Hans von Bronsart, was a German composer, conductor, and pianist who studied under Liszt. In 1861, he married another composer and virtuoso, Ingeborg Storck, to whom he dedicated his piano concerto, which was introduced throughout the world by his close friend Hans von Bülow. The work is rich in beautiful melodies and emotional expression, and is a powerful display of piano virtuosity, foreshadowing the concertos in the same key written by Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. The Piano Trio in G minor was completed in 1856 but not published until 1877. Liszt spoke highly of the work, stating in a letter that it was "one of the finest works ever written in this genre."It was dedicated to Hans von Bülow for its imposing piano part, but other than Liszt's praise, there is little record of how the work was received at the time. The last piece placed last, "Romance for Violin and Piano" by his wife Ingeborg, was published in 1873 and dedicated to a friend who was killed in the Franco-Prussian War. It is an intimate little piece that starts with a graceful melody, goes through a powerful middle section in the dark F-sharp minor, and then returns to the bright theme again. Naxos Japan
