She first came to prominence with operas by Handel, Mozart, and Richard Strauss, and has since steadily expanded her repertoire and richness of expression. The singer's ability to beautifully portray the very different characters of each work is astonishing, thanks to her intelligent interpretation and advanced technique, which she has honed over the years. The unusual album title is taken from one of Copland's "Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson" (included on this disc). Warren's "Night Thoughts" was written for the duo. Connolly was awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2010, the Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 2017, and the King's Medal for Music in 2024, from which only one is selected annually.
