Description:

Cantata No. 45 by Rudolf Lutz and the Bach Foundation Orchestra. No. 74, "He Who Loves Me, Keeps My Word," is a cantata for Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 1725. The content, in which verses 23-31 of the 14th chapter of John's Gospel are used, is sincere, describing people's love for Jesus, God's love for those who love him, and their longing for his return. The opening chorus is adapted from Cantata No. 59 of 1723, but in No. 74 it is changed to a more flamboyant version with trumpet, oboe, and augmented chorus. The soprano, bass, tenor, and alto each continue with their own technical arias, culminating in a short chorale of thoughts on salvation; No. 86, "Verily, verily, I say unto you," premiered on May 14, 1724, for the Lord's Day of Logate (the fifth Lord's Day of Easter), is a reference to John's Gospel, chapters 16 The lyrics are taken from Jesus' parting words in chapters 23-30 of the Gospel of John. It tells believers in Christ to trust in God without giving up when they are in pain and suffering, even though God may not help them immediately. This is the reason why we preach this song. The piece opens with a simple aria by the bass, followed by an alto aria with a beautiful violin solo. The highlight of the piece is the limpid singing of Terry Way, who sings solo in this piece. A joyful tenor aria follows, and the piece closes with a hopeful chorale. Cantata No. 41, "Now, O Jesus, be praised," was first performed on New Year's Day, 1725, and opens with a gorgeous chorus of three oboes, three trumpets, and timpani calling out Jesus' name, followed by two arias, one by a soprano and one by a tenor. Three oboes are active in the second soprano aria, and cello piccolo is also used in the fourth tenor aria. Naxos Japan
