Mozart (1756-1791)

Description:

Young Mozart's confident work under the direction of the prodigious Diego Fasolis! Mayor Don Anchise is infatuated with Sandrina, the female gardener who lives in his mansion. He is trying to seduce her again today. Nardo, a servant, is in love with Serpetta, a maid. Serpetta, however, is not so keen on her, preferring a younger man. Then the mayor's niece, Arminda, comes to visit, accompanied by Count Belfiore. In fact, this Count is Violante's former lover who now goes by the name of Sandrina. She had stabbed Violante (Sandrina) out of jealousy and fled. In order to find Belfiore, Violante hides out in the mayor's house as a female gardener, and her valet Lopelto, who has changed his name to Nardo, has taken up residence in the mayor's house. In 1775, just before his 19th birthday, Mozart's opera "The False Gardener" was premiered at the Salvator Theatre in Munich. The work was sung in Italian, but Mozart himself later adapted it to German Zingspiel, and the two-part overture was made into a symphony by adding an extra movement. The young Mozart's outstanding talent abounds in this charming piece of music, including the duet by Violante and Belfiore. This production follows Frederick Wake-Walker's production that premiered at the 2014 Glyndebourne Festival, but for the 2018 La Scala revival, the Scala Orchestra has switched to period instruments and has brought in strong singers such as Kresimir Spicer and Julie Martin The orchestra of La Scala has switched to period instruments for the 2018 revival, with strong singers such as Cressimir Spicer and Julie Martin du Teil, and the baton of Diego Fasolis, an authority on ancient music performance, brings the whole production together with rich shading and light tempi.
