Pioneering Female Composers Meet in Leipzig in the 1870sAmanda Mayer (Amanda Lentchen-Mayer) of Sweden and Ethel Smythe of England. The two pioneering female composers studied in Leipzig in the 1870s, and it is thought that they interacted with each other there. This album is the world premiere recording of string quartets composed by the two at exactly the same time. Mayer's was completed in 2019, supplemented and reconstructed by Swedish conductor and composer B. Tommy Andersson, and performed by the Mayer String Quartet, a group of virtuosos formed in 2018 with members of the Stockholm Philharmonic, who have participated in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and have visited Japan independently.
