Since winning the first Rachmaninoff Competition in 1983, Scherbakov has been in the limelight as a virtuoso pianist of technical virtuosity, and has also attracted piano fans around the world with his poetic expression. He is a master pianist from Siberia, and his Beethoven is a master of the piano. His Beethoven works, including the complete symphonies arranged by Liszt and the "Diabelli Variations" recorded for the NAXOS label, have been highly acclaimed, and he has also performed several sonatas and other works in his repertoire. In 2020, the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, the complete sonatas will be released. His technique, as well as the expression born of his extraordinary concentration and keen sensitivity, creates an exquisite image of Beethoven that is both dynamic and tense.
