Description:
The Korean string quartet, active in Germany, has won many prizes in European competitions! Formed in 2016 at the Cologne University of Music, the Esme String Quartet takes its name from an old French word meaning "to love". The quartet is a quartet of four women from South Korea, all of whom are interestingly childhood friends, and has been highly acclaimed in competitions across Europe, winning four awards, including first prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in 2018. On this debut album, the quartet presents three pieces with very different personalities: a young Beethoven string quartet, a beautiful scenic piece with bridge, and an avant-garde piece by Eun-Sook Chen, a Korean female artist from Germany (Berlin) with whom the quartet has a lot in common. The three songs on this album show the breadth of their repertoire. The girls' skillful expression, supported by their high technical ability and rich singing spirit, is their strong point.
