This box set commemorates its 50th anniversary. The recordings on the independent label "phi" (PHI), which Herreweghe launched in 2010, cover a wide range of repertoire from Victoria to Dvořák. The recordings also provide a bird's-eye view of the orchestra's activities from its early days, when it pursued music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, to its recent activities, when it has taken on the Romantic period. The beauty of the vocal ensemble, for which Herreweghe has put so much care and attention, is truly ironclad. The skill with which he draws out the beauty of the voice from the music of various eras is undeniably breathtaking.
