Description:
Emilie Meyer was born in Friedland in 1812 to Johann and Henrietta Meyer, who owned a pharmacy. She moved to Szczecin (now part of Poland) to earn a living, where she took composition lessons from Karl Löwe, and began writing music. She came into the limelight as an outstanding female composer alongside Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann. She wrote in a romantic style, sometimes in an avant-garde harmonic style, while adhering to the classical style. This album features large-scale symphonies and concertos on CD1, and piano and chamber music on CD2, providing an insight into Meyer as an outstanding composer. Naxos Japan
