<Kikuo Watanabe (piano)>Kikuo Watanabe has a deep knowledge of Scandinavian music, especially Finnish music, and has made Sibelius his life's work, placing it at the center of his performance activities. He has performed the complete Sibelius piano music series five times, all of which have been released on CD. In 2015, the 150th anniversary of Sibelius' birth, he appeared on NHK-BS's "The World of Sibelius Chamber Music," and his Sibelius recitals in Tokyo and Osaka were broadcast on NHK-FM, He has been a leading authority on Sibelius piano music. In December 2015, the Sibelius Society of Finland awarded her the historic and traditional "Sibelius Medal" for her accomplishments over the years. He studied piano with Hidemitsu Hayashi, Susumu Umetani, Abhay Simon, Georges Chebok, and Stanislav Neigaus, chamber music with János Starker, and composition with Teruyuki Noda. He graduated from Indiana University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music degree with honors, and completed his graduate studies at the same university in 1976.Since her debut recital in July of the same year, she has given recitals of Chopin's complete Polonaises, Schubert's last three sonatas, and the Sibelius program, as well as duos with Etsuko Terada in the Latvian capital Riga, Helsinki, and other cities in Japan and abroad, Her CDs include the complete works of Sibelius, duo with Etsuko Terada, and "Sibelius Violin Works I & II (Violin: Madoka Sato)". She is a specially-appointed professor of piano at Musashino Academia Musicae and a music advisor at The Phoenix Hall in Osaka. (2/2) Naxos Japan
