The charm of Jose Feliciano's music can be heard on this second album as well as on his later works. It is no exaggeration to say that Jose created M-2, for which Chip Taylor was involved in songwriting, and M-11, for which Phil Ochs also left his own compositions. M-9 features a rough-hewn scat and a big ride. At the time of making "A Bag Full of Soul," Jose had not yet achieved the stardom that was to follow. It would be a long time before he would have the big hits of "Set My Heart on Fire," "Whispering in the Rain," "Feliz Navidad," "Que Sala," and many others. Here is Jose Feliciano, a young man with a lot of blood in his veins who played the guitar and played shows frequently, as if he was just a name to be known.The revival of this "hidden masterpiece of early Jose Feliciano" in both stereo and mono mixes is nothing short of an accomplishment, as the thick, grainy tones of the acoustic guitar are enchanting in their own right.
