Ponce(1882-1948)
Description:
Manuel Ponce (1882-1948) was a Mexican composer and music teacher whose style lies somewhere between late Romantic compositional style and neoclassicism. In Japan, he is well known for his song "Estrellita (Little Star)," arranged by Heifetz, and several guitar pieces, and is positioned rather as a "guitar composer," but in fact he was an excellent pianist himself, and his works include a considerable number of piano pieces. It is a real pity that people do not know that he is actually an excellent pianist and that his works also include a considerable number of piano pieces. His music has charming harmonies, romantic atmosphere, and Mexican folk songs. The piano pieces that successfully intertwine these elements are all lovely, with the unique sensuality of the tropical air and a certain amount of languor. If you want to enjoy his romantic music, we recommend "Estrellita" (piano version by the composer himself) and "Interlude," and if you want to enjoy modern music, we recommend "Mexican Style Dance.
