motifs, a 5-piece dream pop band from Singapore, releases their new EP "If This House Was Bigger". Recorded in a studio owned by Sigur Ros, the EP is a masterpiece that perfectly reflects the atmosphere of their days in Iceland. Motifs, a 5-piece dream pop/shoegaze band based in Singapore, has completed their new EP "If This House Was Bigger". Their previous debut album "Remember a Stranger" sold out physical copies all over the world, including Asia, Europe, and the United States, and attracted a lot of attention in Japan, where the band toured. In 2024, they also surprised shoegaze fans by appearing as the opening act for a slowdive show in their home country of Singapore. This album was recorded at Sundlaugin Studios owned by Sigur Ros in the suburbs of Reykjavik, Iceland. The recording took place over a week in a house in the mountains outside of Reykjavik called "Himri" with producer Leonard Soosay (Snakeweed Studio), who created the daydream-like sound of "Remember a Stranger". The recording took place over a week. They woke up together every morning to a snowy landscape, drove through frozen rivers and fog, and one day were caught in a blizzard that blindsided them, returning home in the middle of the night to cook dinner together in the middle of the night. That week gave them something they never thought they would need. Tranquility, time, and warmth." For the first time, living under one roof, playing music without pressure, the songs slowly and gently welled up. The winter air, the silence, and the atmosphere of the historic studio merged deeply with the band's sound. Throughout the five songs, the motifs expanded their sonic palette without losing their emotional core.The album includes "aug 16," a roaring number cloaked in Icelandic chill, "Heavy Is The Air," a slow-core song written while reminiscing on a riverside where it never freezes, and "Later On," a gentle song with a lo-fi beat reminiscent of The Radio Dept. or Club 8 and Elspeth's clear voice that is pleasantly gentle. Later On". Full of quiet urgency, the EP is a life-sized record of lyrics and acoustic guitar phrases spun like whispers in a bedroom hallway in the middle of the night. It is a joint release with fastcut records and SHELFLIFE (USA).
