Canadian rock act COURAGE MY LOVE, featuring twin sisters Mercedes Arn-Horn and Phoenix Arn-Horn and handsome bassist Brandon Lockwood, burst into the pop-girl rock scene with their trio. The band has been nominated as one of the "must see bands" by the Alternative Press and in the Breakthrough Group category at the JUNO AWARDS, Canada's biggest music awards. The band has now grown up even more, and has completed their new album "SYNESTHESIA" with a sound style that cannot be described by the word "girl rock band" alone! The title of the album, "SYNESTHESIA", means "synesthesia" in Japanese. It is a term that refers to the feeling of having another sense in addition to the one you normally have of a certain thing (for example, when you hear a sound, you feel the sound not only as an auditory sensation but also as a color sensation). The title of the album is a true reflection of the mature and new style of COURAGE MY LOVE, which is centered on two twin sisters who are now 22 years old adult women. The result is "SYNESTHESIA," the result of a teen girl rock band with a burst of catchy pop that has evolved into a more dynamic and deep style, honing its abilities and growing through repeated tours and facing its own music.Phoenix commented on the new album: "We didn't want to stay in the category of a girl rock band. We didn't want to stay in the girl rock band category. We wanted to break out of that scene and see how far we could go. We wanted to get rid of the ego of showing off and focus more on the songs themselves and the lyrics themselves. We have been trying to write songs that are not just a bunch of sparkling parts. When someone goes through something, when they don't believe in themselves anymore, or simply when they are at their worst, I wanted the album to have a message that would empower them to come out of that situation strong."The sound that connects the past and the present...the 25/13 string koto and piano, the East and the West, ancient music and contemporary music meet and resonate in this encounter. Musik Kugel is a unit of Ruri (25 and 13 string koto) and Shinichiro Kanda (piano and composition). In addition to Musik Kugel's original compositions, the duo performs Japanese classics, Western music, contemporary music, improvisation, and more. Ruri has studied the koto since childhood and Steiner's music theory since her student days. She is active in nouvelle Muse, a unit with Indian classical instruments, Musik Kugel, a duo with piano, and the "Kotohana Project," a video collaboration with eurythmy. Shinichiro Kanda has been experimenting with composition and performance for controlled improvisation under the name of Ongaku Bikaku. He crosses the border between various genres from classical and contemporary music to jazz and improvisation. He has already released five albums.The thirteen-string koto, which has created a unique Japanese music, and the twenty-five-string koto, a new and at the same time ancestral instrument, are imbued with the flow of time from a wide range of regions from Asia to the Middle East. The encounter between these instruments and Western keyboard instruments sometimes makes classical works sound new and unfamiliar, and sometimes creates a sense of nostalgia in the midst of new music.
