This magical album by Cornwall-based avant-folk performance artists The Worms, Pantilde is an ethereal new world, out-of-this-world, yet somehow rooted in reality, an imaginary oral and musical narrative of everyday life in an alien Celtic village. The music of this total album is a strange, strange, strange story. The music of this total album is at once strange and familiar, fantastic and enchanting, yet at the same time connected to the earth.
Amy Lawrence, a musician who calls herself The Worm, plays and sings on acoustic instruments such as cello, harp, recorder, and percussion in a ritualistic atmosphere, her rich voice sometimes overdubbed and sublimated into a beautiful, rustic vocal ensemble. Lawrence uses his voice to weave a sung narrative of mythical and mystical village life and landscape, and the relationship between man and the natural world.The Worm is a musical The Pantilde is a mutant talent that has emerged in a musical lineage that includes Bridget St. John, Jessica Pratt, Kathryn Howe, Mary Lattimore, and Tristoff y Feniewood. The binding artwork, which evokes the dwarfs of Celtic legend who live underground, is by Lawrence, and "Pantilde" is the name of the donkey in the photo. Liner notes and lyrics in both English and Japanese, like an ancient document by The Worm himself, are included.
