Yamashita Kazuhito

Description:

A beautiful and demanding hymn to life that resonates in the countryside of Moguer, Andalusia. The 2-CD set (Nippon Crown, 1997), which includes a reading of the original Spanish poem by T.J. Berganza, was highly acclaimed, and the present guitar solo version of "Platero to me" is a remastered version of 20 excerpts from this recording, performed by Kazuhito Yamashita alone. The guitar alone transforms this work into a work of pure music, and the exquisite brushwork of the music becomes even more apparent. We hope you will listen to Yamashita's lively rendering of the story of the poet and the donkey. (Kazuhito Yamashita (guitar) was born in Nagasaki in 1961, and learned guitar from his father, Toru Yamashita, from the age of eight. He also studied under composer Kojiro Ofune. In 1977, at the age of 16, he won the Ramirez Guitar Competition, the International Guitar Competition of Alessandria, and the International Guitar Competition of Paris, becoming the youngest ever winner of all three major international guitar competitions. 86 LP and CD albums have been released to date. In 1980, his arrangement of "Pictures at an Exhibition" was a great success. Since then, he has arranged many major orchestral works for guitar, including "The Firebird," "Scheelazato," and "From the New World," as well as "Bach: Suite for Solo Violin, Cello, Flute, and Lute BWV 995-1013" (5CDs). He has a vast repertoire, including "F. Sor: The Complete Guitar Works (16CDs)," "H. Villalobos: 12 Exercises and 5 Etudes," and "M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco: 24 Caprichos by Goya," all of which are highly regarded as masterpieces of the guitar repertoire.Solo recitals in the Great Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, the Great Hall of the Philharmonic in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Capella Theater, the Great Concert Hall of Zaryazhie in Moscow, Teatro Olimpico and Teatro Reggio in Italy, Lincoln Center in New York, and Chicago Symphony Center Orchestra Hall, and other solo recitals around the world. He has performed with world-class conductors and orchestras such as L. Slatkin and R. Frühbeck de Burgos, and is a frequent guest performer at major mixed-genre festivals around the world. In 2004, he formed "Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quartet Quintet" with his own children, and also performs as a guitar duo with his eldest daughter (Beniyumi) and second daughter (Aiyo) all over the world. He also performs with his eldest daughter (Beniyumi) and second daughter (Aiyo) as a duo. His CD "The Dawn of Japanese Guitar Music" won the Grand Prize at the 1999 Bunka-Cho Arts Festival.
