This live recording of Berlioz's Requiem is from the critically acclaimed Berlioz Cycle, which was featured in the 1993/94 season, the 20th anniversary of his appointment as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It is a large work with mixed chorus, tenor solo voice, orchestra including eight pairs of timpani, and four separate brass ensembles, and the contrast between the spectacular acoustics of the climax and the serenity of the unaccompanied chorus is dramatic.
