Description:
This is Rossini's finest depicted with overwhelming speed and dynamism. In the analog era, the Rossini Overtures by Sell and the Cleveland Orchestra were highly acclaimed along with the monaural recordings by Toscanini and the NBC Symphony Orchestra, and the stereo recordings by Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The orchestra's breathing with the orchestra is perfectly in tune, and the surprises Rossini sets up here and there are vividly presented with an overwhelming sense of speed and dynamism. The mastery of Rossini's crescendos, the singing spirit in the flexible cantabile, and above all, the vitality of the work as a whole, are the true essence of this duo. The 1957 recording of "Fra Diavolo" and the 1958 recording of "The Carnival of Rome" are also excellent performances. Recorded January 14, May 12, May 5, 1967, etc. / Location: Cleveland, Severance Hall, Masonic Auditorium
