Doug Marsh-led indie rock legends Built to Spill sign with Sub Pop and release their first album in seven years On September 9, 2022, Sub Pop will release Built to Spill's new album, When the Wind Forgets Your Name will be released on Sub Pop on September 9, 2022. The album was produced by Doug Martsch, mixed by Martsch, Le Almeida, Joao Casaes, and Josh Lewis, and mastered by Mell Dettmer. The cover art was created by comic artist Alex Graham. I've been wanting to release music with Sub Pop since I was a teenager, so I'm very excited. I think I'm the first artist in their 50s they've signed," Martsch says. When the Wind Forgets Your Name continues to expand the world of Built to Spill in new and exciting ways.In 2018, Martsch is with Brazilian lo-fi punk artist/producer Le Almeida, Joao Casaes, longtime collaborators of the psychedelic jazz-rock band Orua. When the band needed a new backing band for their Brazilian shows, they asked them to join them. The Brazilian dates went well and they decided to continue playing together in 2019 and tour the US and Europe. During soundchecks, the two learned new songs written by Martsch, and once the tour was over, they recorded bass and drum tracks at Martsch's rehearsal space in Boise. After they returned home, Martsch began overdubbing guitar and vocals on his own. The three originally planned to mix an album together somewhere in Brazil or the U.S. in late 2020, but the pandemic prevented them from meeting again in person.However, we were able to send tracks to each other so we could collaborate on the mixing process. The result was "When the Wind Forgets Your Name". Almeida and Casaes returned to their work with Oru Square, and Martsch renewed the band's lineup with Teresa Esguerra of Prism Bitch on drums and Melanie Radford of Blood Lemon on bass. In September, Built to Spill and Oru will play a show together.
