Description:

New age ambient jazz artist Nala Sinefro, who combines improvisation and meditation, has composed the music for A24's new film "The Smashing Machine" directed by Benny Safdie! The release of her first soundtrack album! Widely acclaimed composer Nala Sinefro's unique blend of jazz sensibilities, meditative harp and modular synth sounds, folk music, and field recordings has led to the release of her first soundtrack album, "The Smashing Machine OST" on Warp. The Smashing Machine OST" on Warp. The Smashing Machine is directed by Benny Safdie and stars "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson. The Smashing Machine is A24's latest film about the life of legendary mixed martial arts and UFC fighter Mark Kerr. The Smashing Machine OST was written, produced, arranged, mixed, and mastered entirely by Nala Sinefro himself.Director Benny Safdie was also present for the recording, which took place in London, with James Morrison (sax), Nubia Garcia (sax/fl), Morgan Simpson (ds), Sheila Maurice Gray (hr), Lyle Burton (syn), Mark Morrison (g), Dwayne Kilvington (syn-bs), and her regular collaborators, including Orchestrate, a group of young London musicians who also provided strings for "Endlessness". Meditative, spatial, and expansive, Nala's music may at first glance seem at odds with Ressler's narrative. But she resonates deeply with that story, scooping up the softness and emotion that lurks within. Pedal harmonium mirrors the weight of the wrestlers, while rising synth slides portray the tension of fear, pain, and dependence. In "KO," among others, the synths evoke supernatural screams and take anxiety to the extreme. The soundtrack as a whole is full of Nala's spaciousness and warmth, beautiful strings, restrained themes, and leisurely harps, but sharpened to fit the film's themes of fear of defeat, dependence, vulnerability, pain, volcanic relationships, pressure, and ecstasy.
