Description:
A collection of bassoon concertos from the collection kept at the Dresden court! The Dresden Capella Soloists, led by Helmut Blaney, present a collection of bassoon concertos from the fascinating collection of scores kept at the Dresden court. The collection was originally the private collection of Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755), concertmaster of the Dresden court orchestra, but after his death, the court purchased it and stored it in cabinet (Schrank) No. 2, thus the name "Schranck II". It is called "Schranck II" because it was kept in the second cabinet (Schrank). In Dresden, the bassoon has been in use since 1696, and was an early solo instrument for concertos. The Dresden Capella Solisten is not an orchestra of period instruments, but it recreates the sound of the early 18th century in a manner based on the playing customs of the time. Eric Reicke, a native of Radebeul near Dresden who became the first bassoonist of the Gewandhaus Orchestra at the age of 19, gives a wonderful solo performance. Tokyo M-Plus
