A must have for Glasper and RH Factor lovers with its raging groove that sublimates hip-hop, P-funk, jazz, soul, and fusion! Sparks was born in Corsicana, Texas in 1973. Born in Corsicana, Texas in 1973, Sparks' musical family background includes a jazz musician father and a church organist mother, and he began playing the organ at a Baptist church at the age of six. While studying music at Eastfield University, he discovered Kirk Franklin's gospel group and served as its musical director from 1992 to 2005, producing "Kirk Franklin & the Holy Family" in 1993 and "Nu Nation Project" in 1998, He has participated in such albums as "Kirk Franklin & the Holy Family" in 1993, "Nu Nation Project" in 1998, and the masterpiece "The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin" in 2002.He has performed with gospel luminaries such as Fred Hammond, Cece Winans, and Donnie McClurkin, as well as jazz and R&B luminaries such as Herbie Hancock, George Duke, Leila Hathaway, Kirk Waylam, Natalie Cole, and Nancy Wilson. He has played on a Hammond B-3 organ, which he received from his parents on his 16th birthday and still plays today, as well as a Mellotron 4000, Hohner D-6 clavinet, Fender Rhodes, Mini-Moog, Oberheim OBXA, ARP Odyssey, Prophet-5, and many other instruments. He loves to use vintage equipment from the 1970s. As a key member of Roy Hargrove's RH Factor, he played on 2003's Hard Groove, 2004's Strength, and 2006's Distractions, and has been a regular member of Snarky Puppy since 2016. Grammy-winning album "Culcha Vulcha" and participated in "Immigrance" in 2019.His first album as a leader, 2019's Schizophrenia-The Yang Project, featured Roy Hargrove, Marcus Miller, Snarky Puppy's Michael League, and others. Guests include Mike Stern, John Scofield, Eric Gales, Chris Potter, Keith Anderson, Pino Palladino, Hadrian Fellows, Chuck Smith, Liz Wright, and more, a veritable all-star. In addition, Snarky Puppy band members Michael League, Mark Lettieri, and Jason Thomas are cast in a festive setting. The album is dedicated to the late Bobby Sparks Sr.'s keyboardist father, a lifelong lover of bebop and blues. George Duke, Stevie Wonder, and P-funk great George Clinton, as well as his own gospel background influences, are reflected in this funky and groovy second album, sublimated with a hip-hop sensibility.
