Description:
Beautiful and delightful, the "secret" two string quartet, the Maltfeldt Quartet, was founded in 1980 by members of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra. The current members consist of members of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra and the Cologne Gürzenig Orchestra, who have been performing together since 2010. Paradis is a Ukrainian-Romanian composer, pianist, and conductor. Although the date of the quartet makes it contemporary, this string quartet, written in 1956, is clearly tonal, as the title suggests, and has a classical appearance, beginning with the first movement in sonata form and ending with the third movement of the Rondo Sonata (the last movement is in C major!). The spacious second movement is in bar. The slow second movement is a beautiful piece reminiscent of Barber's Adagio, and is well worth a listen. The string quartet by Czech composer Fibich is in four movements, including a scherzo. It has a folkloric character that one cannot help but associate with his fellow countryman Dvořák. The highlight is the last movement. The melodies and rhythms are delightful, and the tension in the quartet's construction is unrelenting. King International
