Description:
The highly acclaimed third installment in the Kuiken cantata collection from the Axon Label! Cantata No. 82 for bass & No. 178, featuring outstanding performances by the members of La Petite Bande! This is the third installment in the highly acclaimed cantata series by Kuiken’s OVPP, released on the Accent Label. This volume features Cantata No. 82 for bass—a masterpiece that is, without a doubt, the highlight. The beauty of the oboe’s tone in the opening aria is so moving that tears will well up in your eyes. The lyrics about a peaceful death, delivered in Graben’s soul-stirring voice, are filled with conviction and solace. The oboe also takes center stage in the aria of the fifth movement, where you can fully savor the virtuosity of *La Petite Bande*. Cantata No. 178 is a masterpiece in which the horns and other instruments shine. No. 102, too, was written for a Sunday near Passiontide and features poignant content, including the frequent use of dissonance. This is a precious series that allows us to witness firsthand the creation of a new pinnacle in cantata performance by Quicken and his ensemble.
